Bio

Ashlie Benton is a San Francisco Bay Area-based artist known for her paintings, prints and drawings of objects. While these objects at first seem easily recognizable, they are meant to go beyond the physical representation of an actual object. Reminiscent of Plato’s Theory of Forms, Benton’s works question reality by making the viewer waver between understanding a subject as real vs. ideal. Benton received her B.F.A. from California College of the Arts, Oakland in 1992, and continued her studies in Advanced Painting at the University of California, Berkeley in 2009. Benton has exhibited throughout the country, including solo exhibitions in Menlo Park and Palo Alto, California and Mount Vernon, Illinois.
